Political Career
Rakesh Tikait contested as an independent candidate from Khatauli assembly seat of Muzaffarnagar in the 2007 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election.
On 14 March 2014, Rakesh Tikait joined the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), a political party founded by Ajit Singh, son of Chaudhary Charan Singh, the 5th Prime Minister of India.
He contested the 2014 Lok Sabha election from Amroha constituency on RLD's ticket. He could get only 9,539 votes in the election (0.62% per cent of the total turnout), and therefore, again suffered defeat.

Choudhary Rakesh Tikait is the son of Mahendra Singh Tikait born in 1975 in Muzaffarnagar, UP.
He did his school education at Sir Tashi Namgyal High School and did his graduation from Uttar Pradesh.
He born & brought up in a middle-class family. Currently, Rakesh is a current leader of the Rashtriya Loktantrik Dal Party from UP.
Rakesh Tikait is a farmer leader, politician and national spokesperson of Bharatiya Kisan Union. He is the son of the late Chaudhary Mahendra Singh Tikait, a veteran farmer leader who carried out several major agitations for farmers.
Rakesh has briefly worked as a constable in the Delhi Police. However, during the 1993 peasants' protest, when the Indian government was pressurizing Rakesh to persuade his father to back the agitation, Rakesh opted to resign from his post and later jumped into the protest. . Subsequently, he fully associated himself with the Indian Farmers Union (BKU) and started fighting for the rights of farmers.

In 1997, Rakesh was elected as the National Spokesperson of the Bharatiya Kisan Union.
The Tikait family are members of Balyan Khap. A rule of Khap states that only the eldest son can take command (of an organization) after his father. Accordingly, after the death of Mahendra Singh Tikait in 2011, his eldest son, Naresh Tikait (Rakesh's elder brother), was handed over to the post of president of the Bharatiya Kisan Union. Although Naresh Tikait was given the post of president, all major decisions of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) are always taken by Rakesh Tikait.
The hereditary title "Tikait", taken by Rakesh and his family members, was conferred by the Jat ruler King Harshavardhana of Thanesar to the chief of the Balian Khap in the 7th century. Since then, it has been awarded to each of the chiefs of Balian Khap and members of his male family. Rakesh Tikait's brother, Naresh Tikait, is the current head of the Balian Khap, who took command in 2011 after the death of his father Mahendra Singh Tikait.
Tikait is also the leader of Farmer Andolan & took a part in Mahendra Singh Tikait Farmers movement Kisan Andolan.
Rakesh Tikait, an influential name among the farmers of North India, has led the peasant movements in different parts of the country. He once led a successful movement with thousands of farmers against the Rajasthan government, demanding the government to raise the price of millet (millet), on which he procured from the farmers. Though he had to go to Jaipur jail during the agitation, the Rajasthan government agreed to his demands.
At present, he saw many events of Kisan Andolan. He was seen on many news channels & In the year 2011, While pursuing education he is the President Contestant of Law College. With his intelligence and arrogance, he successfully completed all the campaigning in the university.
He came to the limelight during the 2020-21 farmer protests in Delhi. He is one of the peasant leaders who are being seen at the forefront of the ongoing movement.
He is also a prominent member of the major group of farmers who are participating in negotiations with the Union Government.
He fight 2014 Lokasabha election on the ticket of RLD. He was got 4th place in Results.
