Political Journey
• He came into contact with the RSS at a very young age and participated in the Gau Raksha movement in 1953-54.
• Joshi was an active member of the Kumbh Kisan Movement of Uttar Pradesh in 1955.

Controversy
• Joshi made headlines when he asked reporter Sumit Awasthi to answer the questions the former wanted. Joshi also deleted the clip from the media's camera to stop the damage to himself, the interview went on-air.
• In 2015, Cobrapost exposed Murali Manohar Joshi's links with Ranvir Sena in the Bihar Dalit massacre.
• In 1992, his name was one of the accused in the demolition of Babri Masjid in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. Of the total 49 cases filed in 1992, the second case, FIR No. 198, Murali Manohar Joshi, LK Advani and Uma Bharti were charged with promoting religious hostility and inciting riot. Later, in 1993, the CBI filed a single, consolidated charge sheet against 48 people, including Joshi, LK Advani, Kalyan Singh and Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray. Later, after an order of the Supreme Court, the cases against Mr. Advani, Mr. Joshi and Uma Bharti moved from Lalitpur to Rae Bareli to Lucknow. On 30 September 2020, 28 years later, a special CBI court in Lucknow acquitted all 32 accused in the Babri Masjid demolition case, including BJP leaders LK Advani, Murali Manohar Joshi and Uma Bharti. On 6 December 1992, the Babri Masjid, a 16th-century mosque in Ayodhya that had been demolished by thousands of "kar sevaks", believed that the mosque was built on the ruins of an ancient temple that God Used to mark Rama's birthplace. In November 2020, in a landmark judgment, the Supreme Court of India ordered the construction of a temple at the site. [1]

- He became a member of the RSS at a very young age and participated in the Gau Raksha movement during 1953-54 which sought to divide the land revenue assessment.
- Joshi is a PhD in spectroscopy and has published a research paper related to physics in the Hindi language. He began teaching physics at the University of Allahabad after completing his doctoral studies.
- Dr. Joshi was behind bars during the Emergency in India which lasted for about 2 years. He was jailed in June 1975 and released before the 1977 Lok Sabha elections.
- Murali joined the Janata Party, which was elected to power in 1977, the first non-Congress government in the Republic of India. Joshi was then elected MP from Almora.
