Controversy

On 7 April 2022, several British newspapers reported that Rishi Sunak's wife, Akshata Murthy, claimed non-domicile tax status in the UK.  According to British law, this means that it does not have to pay tax on dividend gains received from foreign companies.  Furthermore, amid the Russo-Ukraine war, the opposition questioned Ms. Murthy's income from Infosys which was still conducting some of its operations in Russia;  It was then that Mr Sunak himself regularly urged British companies to exit Russia in order to inflict "maximum economic pain" on the Vladimir Putin administration.  Later, it was reported that Infosys had decided to withdraw its services from Russia.

Some Lesser Known Facts About Rishi Sunak

Rishi Sunak was born into a Hindu family; his grandparents moved to the UK from East Africa around 1960, making him the first generation immigrant to the UK.
His father was a general practitioner and mother ran a local medical store.  As a child, he would often hand her over to the pharmacy.

He met his wife Akshata Murthy (daughter of Infosys co-founder NR Narayana Murthy) in California while he was pursuing his MBA at Stanford University.  The two lived together for a few years before returning to London.

They later tied the knot in 2009 in Bangalore, India.

In an interview, he said that he is lucky that he did not face much racism during his growing up days in the UK.  But he had narrated an incident-
I was just out with my little brother and little sister, and I was probably too young, I was probably a mid-teen, and we were at a fast-food restaurant and I was just looking after them.  There were people sitting around, this was the first time I had experienced it, just saying some very unpleasant things.  'P' word.  And got stuck.  I still remember this.  It was discovered in my memory.  Of course you can be humiliated in this job in many different ways, but it stings in a way that's hard to explain.  

Sunak is a sports and fitness enthusiast. His favourite football club is “Southampton Football Club,” and Matt le Tissier was his childhood hero.

Before entering politics, Sunak enjoyed a successful business career.  He co-founded a large investment firm "Thelem Partners" in 2010 and along with his father-in-law N.R.  Narayana Murthy.
He considers himself a Hindu and has been taking oath on the Bhagavad Gita in the House of Commons since 2017.
Rishi Sunak is the first Indian-origin British politician to have held "Chancellor of the Exchequer", the second most high-profile position in the UK government.  In addition, he is the second youngest person in the UK to be appointed to the position.
Before joining the Conservative Party in 2014, he volunteered for their election campaigns.
Sunak has been a rising star since entering UK politics in 2014.  Owing to his entrepreneurial personality, he has come a long way in a short span of time, from becoming the Member of Parliament for Richmond (York) in 2015, winning the same.  The seat for two consecutive terms with an increased majority in the 2017 and 2019 UK general elections.  He was also the "Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Local Government" before being appointed as "Chief Secretary of the Treasury" and now, occupies the second most fundamental position of "Chancellor of the Exchequer" in the UK government.

The young, dynamic and talented Rishi Sunak, is one of PM Johnson’s closest and favourite ministers and is also deemed by many experts to be a Prime-Minister-in-waiting.

On 5 July 2022, he shared his resignation letter as Chancellor of the Exchequer (Finance Minister) on Twitter.
The public rightly expect government to be conducted properly, competently and seriously.
